Long island academy of fine art Young artist program
About the Young Artist Program - Ages 9 - 14 The Young Artist Program was started by Leeanna Chipana when the Long Island Academy of Fine Art moved to Glen Cove. This program was developed to give young artists (elementary school and middle school) the advantage of starting their college portfolios early in their artistic careers.
All students begin with the Fundamentals of Drawing. During this course young artists will learn tried and true classical methods and techniques broken down into easier to grasp concepts. The final project for this course is a still-life drawing before being introduced to the fundamentals of painting. Students will work their way towards more advanced paintings.
This course is recommended for all of our young incoming students, since it serves as the foundation for drawing, painting, and sculpture. Students are presented with simple drawing problems concerning proportions, shapes, values, (shading), and basic composition and design. The primary objective of this class is to develop the student’s eye for accuracy. Students will begin this course using charcoal and newspring paper. Advanced students will move onto graphite and finer drawing paper. Students will work on a a final still life project before moving onto painting.
